Non-Profit Ministry
OUR MINISTRIES
How may we serve you?
OPEN ARMS FOOD PANTRY & PASTORIAL PRAYER
The FOCUS Food Pantry is a "choice" market,
offering those in need an opportunity to select food items such as canned goods, fresh produce, and meats. Pastors are on site to provide emotional and spiritual support.
The Food Pantry also provides home grocery delivery to several homebound residents.
EMMERGENCY SERVICES
FOCUS offers emergency assistance to those who are in the midst of an emergency are having trouble paying utility bills.
HAMILTON THRIFT, BOUTIQUE & FURNITURE STORE AND ANNEX
Over 100 volunteers serve hundreds of hours each month to support each of the FOCUS ministries. Over 60 percent of the FOCUS budget is provided through revenue generated in the FOCUS Thrift, Boutique and Furniture Store and the recently added FOCUS Annex Thrift Store. Donations of furniture, clothing, and household items are repurposed and sold in each location. In addition to the revenue generated, the stores support families in emergency situations and numerous non-profit organizations. The remaining funds are generated through monthly and annual gifts from churches and individuals.
CULINARY EDUCATION
Coming this fall, the Philomena Family Center will be home to a groundbreaking Culinary Arts Education program. Led by Chef Trevor Morris and his wife Brandi, owners of Trevioli Restaurant in Columbus, Georgia, the program will promote servant leadership through culinary learning and training. Following servant leadership class, participants will prepare food items for the center cafe, which will be served by special education students who are participating in the restaurant job skills training program. Those who are suffering from food insecurity and visiting the food pantry can enjoy the food specialties each week in the Special Gifts Coffee Shop while waiting their turn to see a pastor before entering the pantry. Trevor and Brandi attend River of Life Church and have a desire to share their love of serving others through their passion for cooking.
HARRIS COUNTY "SPECIAL" STUDENTS JOB TRAINING AND SPECIAL OLYMPICS
The family center has been invited to host Special Olympics training for Harris County. Plans are to provide space for indoor volleyball, bocce ball, and other events. Plans are also underway for programs to provide stimulation and socialization to both high school and adult individuals with disabilities. Harris County special education students will continue job training in the thrift store and food pantry. Training will be added in the “Special Gifts Coffee Shop”.
